What you should keep in mind

Shungite is an active and powerful crystal, and there are certain things you should keep in mind when working with shungite.

(1)  General comment

Shungite therapy and related information is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment. Be responsible for your health and always seek and follow professional advice when necessary.

(2)  Shungite is very powerful, and it can be ‘too much’

Yes, I believe it is possible to overdo the shungite. If you spend long hours sitting next to a powerful pyramid, wearing shungite and drinking shungite water, you may start feeling ‘not right’. This is shungite’s subtle way of telling you that ‘more’ is not necessarily ‘better’.

The ‘not right’ feeling can display itself as physical heaviness, when you feel as if your body is filled with lead. Or it can display itself as the unwillingness to work with shungite. You may even want to take shungite out of your room, for example.

These are all valid feelings, please don’t ignore them. Follow the following routine:

  • Stop wearing shungite and drinking shungite water. Collect all your shungite pieces and remove them from your room / house. It would be best to leave all your shungite lying on the ground for at least a couple of weeks (in a safe place where it’s not going to be taken by animals). Shungite will recharge itself, and your body will have a break from shungite work. You can alternatively give your shungite to your friends for a while.
  • When you feel like it, take the smallest piece of shungite and re-introduce it into your life. Reclaim the other pieces gradually, as guided by your intuition. Don’t start drinking shungite water until at least three months after all of your shungite is back in your life.
  • If you feel that you don’t want your shungite back (which is just fine as it must have done all the work it needed to do with you), find it a new home. Make sure you cleanse it before giving it to its new foster family.

(3)  Shungite and sleep

As a rule, shungite is great for ensuring deep and restful sleep, if you put it at the bottom of your bed.

I always recommend that you should not leave any shungite on your bed-side table, and you should not wear shungite pendants or earrings at night. If you do, there will be too much energy drawn towards your head, and you will most likely have mad vivid dreams throughout the night and wake up tired. Some people put shungite under the pillow to experience lucid dreaming, but make sure you research lucid dreaming first, and do it only occasionally.

However, if you put your shungite piece / jewellery at the bottom of the bed (on a blanket box, or on the floor, etc), the energy will be drawn downwards, and you will have good restorative sleep and wake up feeling rested and grounded.

(4)  Shungite is very active, so use common sense

Shungite is a powerful healing stone. It can alter and ‘stir up’ various aspects of your life. So if you are at a very complex stage of your life, think carefully if you really need this extra dimension to deal with? For example, if you are in active cancer treatment, and so much is happening to your body physically, chemically, and emotionally, I would recommend you stay away from shungite. Wait till you are better and post-treatment, and then re-introduce shungite to help you regain strength and health.

(5) Staining

Majority of shungite items do not stain. Noble (elite) shungite never stains. Glossy (shiny) items do not stain. Once you give your piece a gentle dry wipe to remove any dust created during the crafting process, there should be no issues with staining.

However, having carbon as its main element, just like coal, some shungite items – particulary those that have an un-glossed edge – can leave black stains. If this is the case, give your piece a gentle wash; this should solve the issue.
